ELECTRICAL DRAFTING SERVICES | ELECTRICAL DESIGN SERVICES

SINGLE LINE DIAGRAMS

Single line diagrams are used to provide an overview of the electrical system. Typically the major system characteristics are provided, such as loadings, motor sizes, bus bar ratings, fault levels, circuit breaker ratings, system voltages, transformers, generators and starters. Single line diagrams are used in both medium voltage and low voltage networks.

CABLE SCHEDULES
Cable schedules provided a tabulated list of all cables with relevant details such as cable number, cable type, size and rating, voltage, number of cores and length of route. Cable schedules are applicable for power cables, control cables, instrumentation cables and industrial data communication cables. In addition to the cable schedules, termination diagrams are provided for use by the electrical installation contractor.

CABLE SIZING
The selection of cables for electrical installations is dependant on a number of considerations. These considerations include current carrying capacity, limitation of voltage drop and short circuit temperature rise.

CABLE SUPPORT DESIGN
The method of cable installation determines the type of cable support system to be used. Typical drawings are available for a number of installation methods.

ELECTRICAL SCHEMATICS
Electrical schematics are detailed, electrical, design drawings suitable for use in manufacture or construction. Schematics use standardised graphical symbols and reference letters to depict power and control circuits. Schematics are used in both medium and low voltage applications.

ELECTRICAL DRAFTING
Electrical drafting services are available for all types of electrical drawings for medium and low voltage. This includes:
- Single line diagrams,
- Electrical schematics,
- Distribution schedules,
- Cable schedules and
- Layout drawings
PLC and instrumentation drafting includes:
- Termination diagrams
- Instrument loop diagrams
- Batteries and chargers
- Flow charts and
- Spreadsheets for I/O lists

PANEL / SWITCHROOM LAYOUTS
Layout drawings provide details of the physical size and layout of electrical panels, switchboards, substations and switch-rooms. The layouts give details of power and light fittings inside a room and operator safety clearances.

COMPONENT SELECTION
Component selection is important for the reliable operation of any plant. The components must suit the application and be rated to perform the functions required of them. Many factors are taken into consideration when choosing components. These factors vary from ease of use and ready availability to back-up service and plant standards.

BILL OF MATERIALS
The bill of materials provides a detailed list of the components to be used in the construction of the electrical panel. The components are identified by manufacturer, part number and description. The use of components is flexible to suit the needs of the purchaser. The bill of materials provides a useful reference for costing and spares lists.

PANEL SPECIFICATIONS
Panel specifications are required so that panels are manufactured to suit the application and relevant international standard. The specification for a medium voltage panel is different to that for a low voltage panel. In general, each application requires a different specification because of different service conditions, technical characteristics and acceptance tests. Generally the standards used are IEC, British Standards or Australian Standards.

TECHNICAL DOCUMENTATION
Technical documentation covers a wide variety of written material, including:
- Installation manuals
- Operating manuals
- Maintenance manuals
- Functional descriptions
- Test procedures, test certificates and test record sheets
- Commissioning procedures
- Hand over documentation
- Manufacturer's technical data and parts lists

NEW PRODUCT DESIGN

New product design covers the full range of services for a new product, from ideas generation to prototype testing and set-up for manufacture. The products are those applicable to panel assembly and switchgear manufacture.

TECHNICAL REVIEW & EVALUATION
The services of technical review and evaluation are available for a specific purpose where the customer may not have sufficient expertise or where another opinion is sought. These services are available for any matter relating to medium voltage and low voltage switchgear assemblies and associated products.

COST ESTIMATES
Cost estimates are provided for all types of electrical panels, switchboards and associated devices including switch-rooms and field instrumentation. Estimates are required at the project feasibility stage. Estimates are available for a wide range of materials of international manufacture.

INSTRUMENTATION
Instrumentation services include the preparation of P&IDs and instrument loop diagrams for instruments such as level transducers, flow totalisers, transducers and displays.

OUTSOURCING

Out-sourcing is an effective way for the customer to both reduce costs and to increase capacity at the same time. It gives access to a wider range of skills than may be available within the customer's organisation. It is ideal for use when there is a shortage of persons available for a project.
Outsourcing does require management and co-ordination in much the same way that additional staff would require management.
